Semantic features of paired words in Аbai’s works

Abstract

The use of paired words is especially characteristic of the Turkic languages. Paired words are
found in large numbers in ancient and medieval Turkic written monuments. In the Kazakh language, paired
words are also a common method of word formation. This method of word formation was used by Abai in
large numbers. Many of these words in Abai are typical of the poet's language, which are not used in modern
literary language. Despite the fact that some of these words are based on the words of the Kazakh literary
language, the meaning of these components is currently different. Many paired words consist of words that
are not in the vocabulary of the Kazakh language. In the Kazakh language, among the archaisms that have
been preserved in paired words, there are also borrowed elements. All these cases require a distinction in
the original meaning and origin of paired words of Abai. The article sorts the components of paired words,
often not found in the Kazakh literary language, but characteristic of the Abai language, and explains their
original meaning. The etymology of paired words characteristic of Abay will be analyzed on the basis of
data from the Turkic written heritage and languages. Among such uses, the history of such paired words as
«elsiz-kunsizde, don-ainalu, ake-uke, salem-saukat, teli-tentek, uran-suren, et-zhurek» is considered, which
have not yet been analyzed on the basis of Turkic materials.
