Abstract

Multiculturalism is a theory of political philosophy that advocates the equality of different cultures within the one civic community that emerged in Canada in the late 1960s, in 1971 it became the official ideology of the new government policy of the country. Multiculturalism was later recognized in Australia and Sweden. Multicul-turalism is a theory of classical liberalism, which advocates liberal values, the protection of human rights, regardless of cultural, ethnic, religious affiliation. At the present moment, due to the declared crisis of the policy of multicultur-alism in Western Europe, this theory is one of the controversial concepts of contemporary political and philosophical discourse. The article discusses the understanding of multiculturalism as a policy of nation-building, advocating for the cultural diversity of peoples within the framework of one civil community in the post-Soviet countries on the example of Kazakhstan.
