The Russian Governmental Policy towards the Muslims of the Central Asia in the beginning of XX century

Abstract

This article describes the relationships between Russian colonial government and Muslim population of
Russian Central Asia, emphasising on how the Russian government perceived the Muslim population and we consider the nature of these relations. The particular period is the first two decades of XX century, covering briefly changes
brought in the result of Andijan uprising, the position of ulamas, Stolypin reforms, outbreak of the First World War
and 1916 uprising. Some theses are used in the article, which partially show us the Russian imperial attitude to Muslims and Islam. The main research topic is questioning a widespread assumption that being Muslim in the Russian
Empire means to be resistant to the colonisation and having a permanent desire to succeed from the Empire, which
is far from being truth indeed.
