The article is devoted to aspects of relations between the countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). Within its framework, a study was made of the commonality and differences in the interests of large states – China and Russia – and the countries of Central Asia. Their strategic positions in matters of ensuring security and economic development of the region were revealed. The main instrument and direction in the activities of the SCO remains multilateral cooperation, which is based on the principle of equality and taking into account the interests of all member countries. The divergence of positions is evidenced by the initiatives voiced on the SCO platform. Not infrequently they represent a different vision of the development of the organization.
One should also pay attention to the peculiarity of the SCO, where two large countries – China and Russia – have, although not polar, but also different views on the issues of ensuring and strengthening security. On the one hand, it is the implementation of the democratic principle in such a sensitive area. On the other hand, certainly a useful experience for the future multipolar – not divided into blocs – world.
