Abstract

The article describes the main aspects of the military cooperation of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the
CSTO format in the context of modern challenges and threats to regional security. The article reveals the main aspects
of the military cooperation of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the CSTO format in the context of modern challenges
and threats to regional security. The role of the Treaty in creating stable external conditions for each state party that
has taken the path of independence and statehood building, protection of sovereignty and territorial integrity is noted.
The significance of the Treaty as an instrument promoting development of cooperation in the defense sphere and
interaction in the construction of national armed forces was also noted. The purpose and objectives of the CSTO, the
conditions of its formation and development are disclosed. The CSTO’s practical steps to ensure security are described
in detail, in particular, the formation of a collective security system, the creation of the Joint Staff of the Organization
and the Crisis Center for Response to the CSTO. The analysis concluded that the Treaty remains relevant today in
order to counter collectively the challenges and threats to the national security of the CSTO member states
