Abstract

In the article, authors consider the features of think tanks that are dynamically developing today
in the People’s Republic of China, their place in the global ranking, and in general about their contribution to the
conduct of public policy. Also shown are the specifics and directions, types and activities in the development strategy
of the think tanks of China.
According to the authors of the article, despite the differences between the political regime and the political
system, China also has a particular interest in the development of think tanks. This trend began with the advent of
President Xi Jinping in 2012 and the announcement of a plan to create think tanks with Chinese characteristics at the
18th CCP Congress in November of that year.
In the activities of the think tanks of China, educational policy, that is, the availability of master’s and doctoral programs is one of the main directions of their work. At the same time, the Chinese government is strengthening the
position of think tanks in popularizing the “model of the Chinese development path”, its distribution, and also as an
instrument of soft power.
