Abstract

The diaspora in any state is an institution of both political communication and
a “live bridge” in interstate relations. The history of the German diaspora in Kazakhstan has more
than 200 years. The friendship of the Kazakh and German was tested by the difficult fate of the
exiled people. And now ethnic Germans are making a great contribution to strengthening relations
between Kazakhstan and Germany. Germans of Kazakhstan successfully work in many areas:
in agriculture, tourism, medicine, the public sector and contribute to the expansion of business
and cultural contacts between the two countries, acting as mediators in the negotiations. Highly
appreciating this contribution, efforts are being made at the government level to support the German diaspora. An Intergovernmental Commission for Ethnic Germans Affairs has been created,
an appropriate legislative framework has been adopted, and the status of the German language
is strengthened from year to year. And in the future, the German diaspora will play the role of a
“human bridge” in the development of interstate relations which today are practically non-conflict
and friendly.
