The article is devoted to a comprehensive analysis of the concept of the information society, its structural characteristics, and its impact on modern socio-economic activity. The information society represents a new historical stage of development in which information becomes a key strategic resource that determines decisions in the economic, political, cultural, and social spheres. In such a society, the production, processing, storage, and dissemination of information are considered core economic values.
The article pays special attention to the historical prerequisites for the formation of the information society and the role of scientific and technological progress in this process. Emphasis is placed on the rapid development of innovative technologies, the expansion of digital infrastructure, and the widespread dissemination of the Internet and telecommunications networks, which are regarded as the main driving forces of change. The close relationship between the information society and globalization processes is also emphasized.
As a result of digitalization, the economic structure undergoes a fundamental transformation, giving rise to new types of activities, professions, and specializations. The education system is being updated through interactive and distance learning platforms, while communication processes are increasingly taking place on digital platforms. The labor market is also witnessing growing demand for digital skills.
The article also addresses the current challenges facing the information society: digital inequality (differences in access to the Internet), cybersecurity threats, confidentiality and protection of personal data, and changes in traditional patterns of social interaction.
