Abstract

In today's information age, new digital technologies have made it impossible to discriminate between legitimate and fraudulent media. The rise of deepfakes is one of the factors that has intensified and compounded this problem. They are hyper-realistic films of people talking and doing things that have never happened before, thanks to artificial intelligence (AI). Deepfakes are easily and swiftly circulating as a result of technological advancement and social media enhancement, which has a negative impact on society.

Deepfake news is becoming a serious problem that endangers public discourse, human rights, and democracy. It threatens national security and weakens citizens' trust in the media and institutions by disseminating propaganda and meddling in elections. This article examines the theoretical and historical aspects of the phenomena, as well as their types and purposes. Deepfakes are discussed as part of the information and political conflict in the main part of the study, and various international political cases are provided. Furthermore, an international experience in fighting deepfakes was examined, and some prevention and solution techniques were recommended
