Abstract

The article deals with the history of the development of Kipchak and Oguz languages. Their origins are
rooted in Proto-Altaic as well as in Proto-Turkic as the earliest stages of their development. The authors describe the
relations of Proto-Kipchak and Proto-Oguz to Old Turkic, the language of the earliest written Turkic documents in
the runiform script. Further, Kypchak and Oguz components in M. Kashgari’s „Dīwān Lughāt al-Turk“ are revealed
alongside historical and linguistic features of Kypchak and Oguz varieties in the late Middle Turkic period as well
as in the Modern Turkic time. In particular, the category of plurality is analyzed in order to illustrate some typical
features of the Kypchak and Oguz morphophonology.
