The article examines the construction of an independent state as a dynamic process within the context of existing political science approaches and the interrelation of studies conducted on specific post-Soviet countries.
The scientific problem is analyzed through the comparison of key ideas from studies carried out in the West, Russia, and other CIS countries, including Azerbaijan. It is demonstrated that the construction of an independent state is a complex process that requires the successful integration of both universal and national factors.
Using the example of Azerbaijan, the article shows that the content and objectives of the state-building process are directly dependent on the type of national identity.
The methodological principles adopted in the study are the systems approach and intersubjectivity, while the method of comparative analysis was chosen as the preferred research method. Within the framework of this approach, the issue is examined at a general level through the lens of comparing political science perspectives on national identity and the building of a modern state with studies focused on specific post-Soviet countries. Based on the general political-scientific findings obtained, the process of building an independent state in Azerbaijan is then analyzed.
