Abstract

The article deals with the role of Japanese traditional culture and aesthetics in Japanese life. In
the introduction, the author gives own definition of the word “culture” and makes an analysis of other definitions
of the term. Three religious and philosophical beliefs as Shinto, Buddhism and Confucianism play a major role in
the emergence of Japanese traditional culture. Aesthetic concepts like furyuu, mono-no aware, wabi-sabi and yugen
enable a better understanding Japanese culture. Particular attention is paid to the specific features of the system
of artistic thinking and enjoying the beauty using an example of hanami, tsukimi, yukimi. Beauty in the Japanese
understanding is fleetingness and uniqueness. In Japanese view, everything has its own beauty and the main thing
is to learn to find beauty in everything. Based on this, it was given an analysis of the essence, history, stages of
development and the main rules of tea ceremony, cherry blossom, ikebana and garden.
